Semaglutide
& Tirzepatide

What medications are used?

Semaglutide and tirzepatide are injectable prescription medications used for weight loss, diet management, and appetite control. These anti-obesity medications include Semaglutide, which is in a class of medications called GLP-1 receptor agonists, and Tirzepatide, a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist. Studies have shown that these medications can significantly reduce body weight by up to 15-21%, which is akin to the results seen with bariatric surgery.

Are weight loss injections right for me?

Patients must have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 27 or higher to qualify for prescription weight loss medications. If you are overweight or obese and need to lose at least 15-20 pounds, these strong and effective medications may be suitable for you and your diet.

Patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, endocrine neoplasia type 2, pancreatitis, kidney disease, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, or alcohol abuse are not eligible for our weight management program.

How do these medications work?

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist, which means it works by mimicking the effects of a hormone called GLP-1 that is naturally produced in the body. Tirzepatide is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist with similar effects. Both medications help regulate blood sugar levels, facilitate the body's ability to burn glucose instead of fat, reduce appetite and sugar cravings, and prolong the feeling of fullness, ultimately aiding in the reduction of body mass, abdominal fat volume, and management of your diet.

Common side effects of semaglutide

The most common side effects include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, heartburn, burping, and constipation.

We would recommend over-the-counter therapies such as ginger, stool softeners, antacids, and probiotics for side effects related to your diet and weight management.

More serious side effects are rare but can also occur.
